Fascia, Guttering, Windows and Roof tiles

This week has been quite eventful. First the fascia and guttering went on. We chose monument colour to complement our roof tiles (barramundi).

This is a view from the back of the house looking up at the sunroom. You can see the roof tiles have been delivered in the foreground.

The front.
The windows were delivered (only one got broken) and the corner bath has been installed.

The roof tiles went on but they still need to be bondcreted. The weather is a bit dicey up here so that is probably why that hasn't happened yet.

A view from the front. You can see the gables on the front and sides of the house.

Front door.

Back near the sunroom.

Next the windows started to go in. For some reason I found this to be the most exciting bit yet. I kept walking from room to room saying 'I LOVE IT!!!'. I love our windows because most of them start from the floor and are quite big. I wasn't took keen on the white frames at first but now I am convinced it will work really well with the rest of our colour scheme (fingers crossed).

Here is a view from just inside the front door. Your are looking over the dwarf wall and straight out the back sunroom. What a view!!!

Another pic looking out of the sunroom.

A couple of pics of the back of the house. It's almost all glass. YAY!!

A view from the front of the house. More glass. YIPEE!!!

The bricks have now been delivered and they start those on Monday (2nd Nov). The gyprock is starting on Wednesday. We will be at lock up stage in no time!

Roof trusses and front door

Here are some pics of our finished roof trusses. You can see where the gable is going to be above the front door. I love our front door, it is going to be stained a Jarrah colour and the glass is mottled cathedral glass.

Sorry people

Sorry everyone we are a bit behind in our blog. Had some suprise arrivals last weekend which have taken over our lives for the last week. I can't resist putting some non-house pics in for your enjoyment.....
Hope you have forgiven us for the delay between postings :)
We had 2 black and white females, 1 black, brown and white tricolour female, 1 blue and white male and 1 blue, tan and white male. Does anyone want to buy a border collie?!

Framing stage

The frame of the house started going up last Wednesday (14th October). It isn't a prefab frame so it is taking quite a long time to do as they are cutting and assembling all of the wood on site. Prefab frames seem to go up in a couple of days whereas doing it from scratch can take a couple of weeks. It seems as though the carpenters are running a bit behind as they are working on a couple of jobs at the moment so we may experience some delays from that as well.

The first day they started putting up the frame for our bedroom and the front rooms.

After a couple of days they seemed to have the rest of the rooms done.

Then they put some ply-board thingys in strategic locations, and today they started the roof.

It has been so much fun walking around the rooms. Scarily, there have been a couple of things that I didn't notice on the paper plans. Like the main bathroom shower is tiled on three sides when I thought it was only two. Some of the rooms feel really small, whereas others feel really big. There are huge spaces where the windows are going to go and it is hard (but exciting) to imagine what it is going to look like when it is all finished.
They haven't put the frame up for the kitchen yet, that should happen later this week. But they are focussing on finishing the roof and verandah because the gutters and fascia are booked to be installed on Monday next week. All in all, going along slowly but smoothly.

Slabby days :)

Well, this was the day that we had been waiting for...... Our slab was poured and I was very impressed to see how quickly it was done. They were finishing up around 1230pm having started about 6am. I took the doggies up in the morning to see it, and I had to try very hard to restrain them from putting puppy prints all over the pretty new concrete. I am sure the concreters would have been very unimpressed!

When I went back again in the afternoon they were polishing up the concrete to make it pretty and flat.

I couldn't resist carving our initials in the slab :)

Having a slab makes building very real now. Had to take some of our besties up to the land on Saturday to celebrate! The next step is to put up the frame, which should take about a week. The following week the roof should go on (weather permitting, of course - we have some storms forecast for the next week). Fingers crossed .....

Boxing up of slab

Here are some pics of our slab being boxed up. Put a couple in there so you can try and get some perspective. It looks HUGE!! Very exciting for us as has been an anxious couple of days with a bit of a delay.

Screw piers galore

This week we also got some screw piers put into where the slab is going to go. They literally screw into the ground (at natural ground level) and provide stability for the slab. Not very exciting to some, but for us, awesome!

In other news, J had a call from the site supervisor today to say that the concreters have been delayed a couple of days so unfortunately we aren't getting a slab on Monday 5th October. Not happy Jan!

Plumbing Palaver Sorted!

How funny is this?

Once the Coral plumber discovered that we were looking at other plumbers to do the job (that he should have done in the first place!) he suddenly 'remembered' certain things that Coral was already paying him to do and dropped the price by $1200! Seriously, I am not in love with tradies at the moment - bunch of crooks!

Anyhoo......even though the other plumbers would have been cheaper, we decided to go with the Coral guy because we think that it will be easier in the end. Meaning that we only need one inspection from the council (instead of 2) and we know who to go back to if things go wrong. Didn't want to go with him, out of principle, but thought it would be easier in the end.

So, the plumbing went ahead as planned on Wednesday (30th Sept). Crossing our fingers that we don't have any other major oversights in the contract. Honestly you try to ask all of the right questions......

Here are some pics of the pretty plumbing (if you are into that sort of thing!)

The very expensive ($600) and ugly (but essential) first flush diverters on the water tank - they keep out all of the dust and yukky stuff when it rains.
This is the pipe that caused us so much grief!

Pretty cool because now we can see where our kitchen and bathrooms are going to be. Yipee!
