Lights and fixtures

This week has been busy. There have been all sorts of things being installed. They were trying to get as much done as possible before they shut down next week for Christmas (for almost 4 weeks - don't get me started on that one!).

There was a bit of a hooha about putting lights and a fan on the outside patio, but that sorted itself out in the end. Unfortunately there is a bit of piping on the underside of the patio that is a bit ugly, but at least we got our fan!

Anyway, here are a couple of pictures for you.

Insulation batts are being installed on Monday (21st Dec) which is the last thing that will happen before the Christmas shutdown. They come back to work on the 11th of January, which also happens to be my birthday - I wonder if I will get a house for a present?! A few bits and bobs to do when they come back, but looking at Practical Completion Inspection (PCI) on 19th or 20th of January. Crossing everything that all goes well and we get handover by the end of Jan.

Another reason why I hate Tradies

Our plumber was supposed to be working this week. We went out last weekend and bought the kitchen tap (with filters) that we wanted installed. Our site supervisor told us that it would be ok and that the plumber wouldn't charge us much extra as he was already being paid to install a normal mixer on our kitchen sink.

The plumbers were supposed to start on Monday, but in usual tradie fashion they didn't show up... I phoned the plumber and explained what we needed installed. He starts bullshitting me straight away and tells me that it will cost at least $250 extra to install because he has to do all this special stuff. BTW it is a DIY kit - so obviously can't be that hard. Plus it had a sticker on the box for another chain of plumbers that said that they will install it for $130.

I just can't believe how much tradies rip you off! They take one look at your house and the area that you are buidling in and then double their prices. I am SOOOOOOOOOO sick and tired of wankers that want to rip you off all the time. Might I remind you that this is the same plumber that told us that we needed to pay an extra $3000 for plumbing and then 'remembered' that he was already getting paid for part of that and promptly dropped the price by $1200.

GGGRRRRRRR! Just another couple of reasons why I hate tradies - plumbers are at the top of my list....

Outside painting - Gables, Verandah Posts and Front Door

The painting looks like it has all been finished. They will definitely need to come back at the end to do some touch ups, but mostly it looks good.

The front door has also been stained now and looks fantastic. Yay!

Painting and Patio

The painting has nearly finished this week. Hopefully will be finished by tomorrow (11th Dec). The gables and verandah posts are still to be done and the doors need to be put back on. The downpipes need to be painted. The front door still needs to be stained (Jarrah colour). We are very happy with the colour and the finish looks pretty good so far. There are a couple of areas that need to be filled as the house is still settling and there are some cracks appearing that will need to be fixed.

For those of you that have a burning desire for the details.....we used Dulux Candlebark for the main walls, Natural white for the skirtings, architraves and doors, and paperbark for the outside. The trims on the gables and verandah posts will be Monument (similar to the roof tile colour) but these haven't been done yet.

The patio has been installed today and it looks beautiful. Can't wait to sit out there with a glass of vino enjoying the cool breeze and beautiful scenery!


Next week the plumber and electrician are back. Yipee!! Got a full on weekend ahead picking up lights, buying the kitchen tap etc. Fun fun fun!

Painting and Garage Door

This week (w/c 30th Nov), the painting has started. We were a bit unsure whether the colour would be too dark on a large area. We had a really lovely painter who said that he would paint the ceilings and the insides of our cupboards on the first day to give us and idea of what it was going to look like. If it was too dark he said that we could use half strength or something.

Anyway, when we went to look at the cupboards we were happy to see that it was just the look we were going for. The colour is DEEP, but not too dark. Also, with all the white from the skirtings and architraves (so glad we got the bigger sizes) it ofsets the wall colour. Yay! Very happy :)

Also, the garage door has been put on, but I don't think I have shown any pics yet as it was always up when I was at the house. Here is a pic of our garage door.

Here are some preliminary pictures of our painting so you can get the gist of what we are going for. It will be a bit different when we are finished - hopefully more even :)

The site supervisor spoke to Jason yesterday. The painting should be finished by the end of next week. The patio is now going on next Tuesday. They are trying to get the lights installed and all of the rest of the finishes (taps and appliances etc.) done before Christmas. This means that all they will have to do after the Christmas break, is the clean and fixing of any defects. Then we can move in - still crossing everything for the end of January. YIPEEEEEEE!!!!!
